Spirit of sportsmanship as well as zeal and enthusiasm was witnessed during the two day Annual Sports Day celebrations at the Doon Valley Public School campus on 29th and 30th November. The event was inaugurated by Chairman, Rajeev Sharma on 29th accompanied with his wife, Anoop Sharma, Secretary, DVPS. On the final day DSP Nalagarh, Nishchint Singh presided over the function. Other dignitaries present were Mrs Gurnam Kaur, Mr Gurbinder and Mrs Harsha who graced the occasion and gave their blessings to the students.
The Sports Day commenced with the inaugural speech by the Chairman, Rajeev Sharma, who enlightened the students and all the participants about the “Do’s and Don’ts” in the area of sports. He encouraged the students to give in their best and inspired them to achieve great heights in sports as well as in life. A colourful display of March Past by the four houses, led by the respective House Captains holding flags was a treat for the eyes as it was a well synchronized effort. The Head Boy then administered an oath to all the participants after, which the Sports Meet was declared open by the Chief Guest.
The students presented some scintillating dance performances including a skit conveying the message “to abstain from bad company”. After that some fun games and track events were organized. It was a delight to see the students playing the games with a fire in the eyes to win. Though the desire to win was burning in every heart, even then the sportsman spirit witnessed in the field amazed one and all.
At the culmination of the athletic events, proud winners were honoured by the Chief Guest with medals and trophies. Pragati House led by Mamta Sharma, lifted the overall championship trophy. The victorious sports stars with shining bright faces flaunted their trophies and gained appreciation and thunderous applause from all present.
Arnav Rana of Class XI and Akshita of Class IX were declared “Best Athletes” and were awarded special mementos for their outstanding performance. The event formally ended with the hauling down of the flag by the Chairman. The celebrations eventually culminated with a vote of thanks by the Principal, Namita Lal whose encouraging speech enticed every one and motivated many more students not to give up but persevere for more glory in future.
