Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, has called for a united effort from industry leaders and academic institutions to build a future-ready workforce that can power India’s manufacturing transformation in alignment with the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Addressing a high-level roundtable, the Minister emphasized the critical need for skilling talent across all levels—from the shop floor to research and design—to meet the demands of Industry 4.0 and beyond. He highlighted the Manufacturing, Engineering, and Technology (MET) initiative launched by NAMTECH (New Age Makers Institute of Technology) as a major step forward in closing the skills gap and developing leadership in emerging technologies.
Welcoming a delegation from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Vaishnaw praised the institute’s global reputation and underscored the importance of collaborative platforms like NAMTECH. He urged Indian industry giants, including Suzuki, Siemens, ABB, and Inox, to engage deeply with such initiatives to co-create talent development frameworks, similar to the Gati Shakti platform’s model of knowledge-sharing without financial barriers.
During the event, NAMTECH signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya (GSV), Vadodara, in the presence of Vice Chancellor Prof. Manoj Choudhary. The MoU outlines collaboration in areas such as smart manufacturing, intelligent transportation systems, logistics innovation, and capacity building for future-ready skills.
NAMTECH has also partnered with Siemens India, Analog Devices Inc., and Applied Materials Inc. to develop infrastructure, training labs, and scholarship programs in key sectors like semiconductors, robotics, and advanced manufacturing.
These efforts are aligned with India’s national priorities and missions—including the India Semiconductor Mission, National Hydrogen Mission, and the AI and Robotics strategies. The Skill India Digital Hub, ITI Upgradation Scheme, and Chip to Startup initiative further strengthen this ecosystem by democratizing access to tech-driven vocational education.
By fostering close collaboration between government, industry, and academia, platforms like NAMTECH and MET aim to transform India into a global hub for advanced manufacturing and innovation—ensuring that the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 becomes a reality.
