Auckland House Girls School Senior Section celebrated their Annual Sports Meet here today, as Senior Ex Faculty Member, R C Vyas graced the occasion as the chief guest. The Sports Day commenced with the Guard of Honour as Mr Vyas inspected the school, after which the March Past began wherein the four Houses — Matthew, Durrant, French and Lefroy marched according to their last year’s performance. Principal Auckland House Boys School Micheal John was also present to witness the brilliant performances of the girls.
The March past was followed by some great yogic exercises, P.T. display, gymnastics, aerobics and karate respectively. The children wholeheartedly participated in various races and parents enthusiastically cheered. The House teachers too were seen cheering enthusiastically during the races for their respective house participants.
The students battled it out during the Tug of War in which Lefroy House emerged as winner, while Matthew House bagged the second position. The surprise element of the Meet was the Tug of War contest between the Teachers and students, after a few tugs on both sides, the teachers finally won. The Sports Shield was won by Durrant House whereas the Marching Cup was lifted by Lefroy House.
Chief Guest Mr Vyas was quite happy with the performances of the children and congratulated them on their beautiful display as he distributed the medals and trophies. He spoke of his times in the school, when he joined 40 years ago and how things had improved for the better. He spoke about the all round progress of the school under the guidance and dynamic vision of the school principal. He further added that in schools all children are given a chance to participate in one event or the other and prove their mettle, unlike state or national events where children are handpicked, hence children should strive to achieve their best.
Director Principal Sunita John praised the thrilling event and said, “Life is full of challenges and the first challenges you meet are those on the play field. Most of you have come up to your own expectations as these are not our expectations. Set goals for yourself that you need to better. Don’t compare your achievements with others but strive to better your own performances”. She commended the students and her staff for a great show as the day came to an end amidst loud cheers from all around and the much awaited declaration of a holiday for the students !!!
