In a notable political development, senior BJP leader from Rampur Assembly constituency in Shimla district, Brij Lal, joined the Congress party today along with more than 300 supporters. Following the joining, they met CM Sukhu at the State Secretariat.
Welcoming them, the Chief Minister said the Congress party would give due respect and recognition to all new entrants. He reiterated that the government is working for the welfare of all sections of society and ensuring balanced development across the state. Referring to Rampur as the home constituency of late former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, he assured continued focus on development in the region.
Brij Lal submitted a memorandum highlighting local issues, which the Chief Minister assured would be examined sympathetically.
Explaining his decision, Brij Lal said he was impressed by the functioning of the present government and the leadership of Chief Minister Sukhu. He also remarked on internal dynamics within the BJP, stating that the party has shifted from a “party of workers” to a “party of leaders,” with visible competition for leadership positions.
He further claimed strong public support for the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh and expressed confidence that the party would retain power in the 2027 Assembly elections.
