Bishop Cotton School won the 12th Bishop George Edward Lynch Annual Football Tournament after a nailbiting encounter with Pinegrove School which ended in a penalty shootout after the match had finished 2-2. In the cruellest of finishes BCS only missed one of four penalties to beat their opponents 3-1 in the finals.

The match was a triumph for the BCS football coach, Director of Sport Gurprit Singh who has now won the tournament for the ninth consecutive time. The tournament included eight of the strongest school football teams from across India with Lawrence School, Sanawar, Daly College, Indore and La Martiniere Lucknow  amongst those participating.

The high quality of play particularly impressed the British Director of BCS Simon Weale who said, “The growth of football in India suggests that one day the quality of India’s football will match with cricket. It was a pleasure to welcome our fellow boarding schools to this exciting event and we are thrilled for our boys that they managed to find a way to win.” The BCS will now travel to Mayo College and Sanawar for the final two tournaments of the season.
