The Technology Development Board (TDB) under the Department of Science & Technology has extended support for the pioneering development of India’s first 240-volt electric motorcycle platform, marking a breakthrough in the domestic electric two-wheeler sector. This innovative project is being led by Raptee Energy Pvt. Ltd., Chennai.
Leveraging advanced high-voltage technology previously proven in electric cars, this 240-volt DC motorcycle platform promises faster charging times, enhanced energy efficiency, and seamless integration with India’s growing public charging network.
A key highlight of the project is the development of an ARAI-certified battery pack, designed by Raptee’s in-house DSIR-recognized R&D team, which has invested over six years in creating and validating critical components—from electronics and mechanical parts to embedded software—ensuring top-quality, homegrown technology.
The electric motorcycle also features smart connectivity options, including remote diagnostics and over-the-air updates, alongside sustainable manufacturing processes focused on zero waste and no emissions. The initiative aligns with the government’s goals of promoting Aatmanirbhar Bharat and advancing Sustainable Development Goals related to sustainable cities and climate action.
Commenting on the collaboration, Rajesh Kumar Pathak, Secretary of TDB, emphasized, “Introducing high-voltage technology in electric two-wheelers opens new avenues for rapid EV adoption in India’s massive market. Our support aims to boost domestic innovation, expand local R&D, and promote the manufacture of sustainable mobility solutions within the country.”
Dinesh Arjun, CEO of Raptee Energy, added, “TDB’s backing endorses our persistent R&D efforts and empowers us to scale this indigenous, high-voltage motorcycle platform. This milestone positions India as a leader in the global electric vehicle revolution with future-ready mobility solutions.”
This initiative marks a significant step towards strengthening India’s capabilities in electric vehicle technology, supporting both economic growth and environmental sustainability
