The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), under the Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, has announced the launch of a Special Cleanliness Campaign, named Special Campaign 5.0. This initiative will run from October 2 to October 31, 2025, aiming to promote swachhata (cleanliness) and improve efficiency across government offices nationwide.
Building on the success of the previous campaign, Special Campaign 4.0, which saw the disposal of 3.20 lakh physical files, 58,000 e-files, and clearance of 220 tonnes of old records, the CBDT has committed to further enhancing office hygiene and operational efficiency. During the last campaign, over 53,000 public grievances were resolved, 1.75 lakh square feet of office space was freed up, and ₹43 lakh was generated through scrap disposal.
This year’s campaign will focus on four key areas: disposal of e-waste, improved record management, office space optimization and beautification, and accelerated grievance redressal. The CBDT aims to align these efforts with India’s broader digital transformation and sustainable development goals.
CBDT officials reaffirmed their commitment to transparency, responsive governance, and citizen-centric service delivery. They emphasized that this campaign aligns with government guidelines to institutionalize swachhata and improve public services, ensuring a cleaner, more efficient working environment across all offices.
