Himachal Pradesh Central University has launched “Hindi Month” with a special focus this year on involving students from government educational institutions across Kangra district. The initiative aims to raise awareness and enthusiasm for the Hindi language among students at all levels.
As part of this outreach, two undergraduate students from each of six government colleges in Kangra — including Dehra, Dhalyara, Shahpur, Nurpur, Matour, and Nagrota — have been invited to participate in inter-college competitions.
Extending its community outreach, the university will also organize four competitions across three government schools in Dharamshala — Primary School, Government Boys’ School, and Government Girls’ School — for students from primary to senior secondary levels. All participants will receive participation certificates, while five winners in each competition will be awarded certificates and cash prizes.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sat Prakash Bansal emphasized the importance of self-reflection during Hindi Month and called for greater use of Hindi in all walks of life. “The aim is to instill a deeper love and responsibility among our youth — the future of the nation — toward our national languages. We take pride in Hindi and all our national languages and must strengthen their use,” he said.
The university is also involving undergraduate, postgraduate, research scholars, teaching, and non-teaching staff in a wide range of competitions throughout the month. In total, 29 competitions will be held — 25 for university participants and 4 for school students.
Prof. Bansal added that the university is working to make national languages, including Hindi, more viable as mediums of education and is equipping its faculty and staff with the necessary terminology and resources to support this goal.
