culture-dance.22.6.15bStudents from various schools gathered here today at the Gaiety Theater Shimla to participate in the Inter-District Folk Dance Competition organized by the Language and Cultural Department, Shimla as Dr. Om Gauri Dutt Sharma, Center Director for Doordarshan, Shimla, presided over the function as the chief guest, who was warmly greeted by Seema Arzo, News Reader and Anchor from Akashwani, Shimla. The judges for this occasion were Dr. Hukam Sharma from Akashwani, Prem Prakash Nihatta, Retd. Cultural Coordinator and Bal Bushan Sharma, Manager Program Coordinator, Gaiety Theatre Shimla.

The event began with various folk dance performances by different school in the junior category. The participants were from Govt Senior Secondary School, Lalpani; Govt. Senior School Lakkar Bazar; Govt. High School Rajiyana; Govt. Senior Secondary School Sanjauli; Govt. Secondary School, Fagli and Bal Kathak Kala Manch, Kusumpti. The young participants performed with great zeal and enthusiasm in colorful attires as they gave beautiful presentations and received huge applause from the audience.

culture-dance.22.6.15aIn the senior group the participants were Mahusu Youth Cultural Group Tehasil Chopal; Sunni Nag Cultural Group Khabal Tehsil Rohru; Sargam Cultural Group Theog; Brijeshwar Cultural Group Lakkar Bazar; Jaishree Cultural Group Theog; Karial Cultural Group Mandri and Saraswati Cultural Group Theog.

In between these colourful dances students also presented the traditional Naati and a Karyala was performed to entertain audiences.

Winner of the Junior Folk Dance Competition was Govt. Senior Secondary School Lalpani, while Govt. Senior Secondary School Fagli stood second and Govt. Senior Secondary School Sanjauli was third.

In the Senior Cultural Group the winners were Sunni Nag Cultural Group  Khabal Tehasil Rohru as first; Jaishree Cultural Group Theog stood second while the third prize went to Saraswati Cultural Group Theog.

In his speech the chief guest Dr. Sharma praised the effort of participants and congratulated all on such beautiful presentations. He said, “In the present day lifestyle of Whatsapp and Facebook, such events are very necessary for youngsters to make them aware of our rich heritage culture”. The program concluded with a huge round of applause from the audience.
