A fun filled morning was seen at the Ram Mandir Hall, Shimla which was buzzing with kids — tiny tots aged one plus up to almost 15 year old teens taking part in various events — baby show, fancy dress, song and dance competition. Sood Sabha Shimla organizes such events every year for the Sood Community and especially for children who get the opportunity to showcase their talent and win few Running trophies, which have been donated by the senior members of the community in most games and cultural events. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Hon’ble Member Rajya Sabha, Vimla Kashyap who lighted the lamp to inaugurate the event and other dignitaries who were present were Dr MP Sood, Special Secretary (Social Justice and Empowerment) and Ganesh Dutt, BJP, party spokesman among many senior members of the Sood Community.
The event started with the Baby Show, which was held in two categories: one to nine months and 10 to 18 months; and special doctor judges had been arranged to note the weight, height, activity level of the babies and accordingly babies were allotted points. Judges for the competition were Dr Arvind Sood, HOD Pediatrics, IGMC hospital, Dr Suruchi Sood and Asha Sood. All participants received cute and cuddly teddy bears as participation gifts.
The second event for the day was the Fancy Dress competition for children below six years and six to 10 years. There were quite a few interesting dress ups as children had some great messages to share through their costumes as well as narrations. There was the “save the water” concept, importance of “Rastra Bhasha”, “save the girl child”, “Bharat mata” and as usual few cute fairies and Krishans were there to entice the audience with their performances and confidences in showcasing their talent, of course age was not at all a deterring factor during the whole performance. However, parents and all the members present were more than excited and thrilled while enjoying the performance of these young souls.
The afternoon events were equally scintillating as young teenagers took to the stage and gave some great song and dance performances. The level of competition was so high that during song performances when judges asked questions regarding ‘sur’ and ‘taal’ (music notes) children replied confidently. In the singing competition the age groups were 8 to 12 years and 13 to 18 years. For the dance event kids were categorized in 6-10 years and 11 to 15 years. One could see glimpses of different states through the colourful dances such as the Punjabi bhangra, Rajasthani dance or few classical performances.
The event continued late till the evening as the participation level was quite high. There were few notable performances by children playing casio, entertaining the audience. Chief guest Vimla Kashyap appreciated the hard work and efforts put up by the children and on a personal note gifted Rs. 5000/- for the children who participated in the song and dance events. All the children received participation certificates and those who won got the first, second and third trophies.
President, Sood Sabha Shimla, Praful Kuthiala congratulated all the winners and said that Managing Committee would continue in its endevour to showcase children’s talent by organizing such events and thanked all the members present for making the event successful.
