Sports are an integral part of every school’s curriculum and with that, discipline and sportsmanship form the basis of any sporting event. The students of Auckland House Girls School showed mettle and grit as they gave strong performances during the Middle Section Annual Sports Day. The chief guest for the day was Mandeep Rana, Principal Saraswati Paradise International School, Shimla, who was warmly greeted by the Director-Principal Sunita John, and Micheal A John, Principal Auckland School for Boys.
Students were filled with enthusiasm and vigour as they exhibited their sporting abilities on the play field. The morning began with the March Past, which was lead by the Bagpipe Band. The school was led by the games captain Achal followed by vice games captain Vani Sharma.
Then began an energetic display of drills as students of Form III performed aerobics with ‘smilies’, showing the audience that it is an important aspect of our lives, followed by a Clapping Drill by the students of Form IV, who exhibited that clapping is a perfect acupressure exercise, which can help in easing mental pressure and relaxation. A colourful P.T. display was performed by Form V depicting ‘Unity in Diversity’. The students of Form VI performed various Yoga asanas such as Surya Namaskar, Vrikshasana, Tadasana, among others. The children also participated in various other events such as karate, gymnastics, roller skating, and various relays and obstacle races. (See All Videos)
Students demonstrated a wonderful show as they performed energetically and showcased mental strength and agility. Few falls, few scratches, few misses and few wins was the highlight of the second part of the event, as amidst loud cheers and clapping, students won of medals in individual as well as team races. Samridhi Bhimta was adjudged as the best gymnast. The Marching Cup was awarded to Durrant House, while the Sports Shield was awarded to French House. A special award was given to senior citizen, 74 year old, Dr. Gyan Chand Thakur for participating in parents’ race as he proved that age was no bar when it comes to sports.
The chief guest lauded the efforts of the students and congratulated them on their amazing performance and show of strength. He also appreciated the efforts of the school management and staff for setting such high education standards. He also said that sports activities inculcate discipline, a competitive spirit, a strong moral character and above all a quest for excellence among the students, which was clearly seen at today’s event. Director Principal also thanked the staff, students and support staff for their collective efforts in making the event successful.
