In alignment with CM Sukhu’s directive, the Himachal Pradesh State Pollution Control Board (HPSPCB) has launched extensive awareness campaigns across government schools to promote a clean and green Diwali celebration. These initiatives aim to reduce air and noise pollution by discouraging the use of firecrackers and encouraging sustainable festive practices.
As part of the campaign, programs were conducted in educational institutions across several districts including Bilaspur, Kangra, Shimla, Chamba, Una, Sirmaur, Solan, and Hamirpur.
At the Central Laboratory in Parwanoo, the theme “Swachh Deepawali, Harit Deepawali” was brought to life at Government Senior Secondary School, Patta Masulkhana. Students took part in slogan writing, rangoli competitions, and a public awareness rally to educate the community on the harmful effects of firecracker use.
Similarly, the HPSPCB’s Regional Laboratory in Paonta Sahib conducted an impactful session at PM SHRI Government Schools in Bechar Ka Baag, Sirmaur district. Through engaging activities like poster making, declamations, and creative competitions, students conveyed strong messages supporting an eco-conscious Diwali. Dr. Hitender Kumar Sharma, Principal Scientific Officer, addressed students on the environmental hazards of firecrackers and encouraged greener alternatives. A student-led rally through the local village further amplified the campaign’s reach.
In Hamirpur district, a vibrant awareness event was held at Government Senior Secondary School, Ghaniara. Students participated in a rally, created eco-themed slogans, and crafted a traditional rangoli of Himachal Pradesh adorned with earthen diyas. Satvinder Kaur, Scientific Officer from the Regional Laboratory, Dari, inspired attendees to embrace environmentally friendly celebrations.
These efforts by HPSPCB not only spotlight environmental awareness but also empower young students to become ambassadors of sustainable living, fostering long-term ecological responsibility.
