In a significant boost to healthcare services in Himachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced that Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla, will soon be equipped with robotic surgery facilities, following similar advancements at the Super Specialty Hospital Chamiyana (Shimla) and Tanda Medical College.
Chairing a health department meeting on Wednesday evening, the Chief Minister revealed that 40 beds at IGMC will be dedicated to robotic surgeries, particularly for patients of Kamla Nehru Hospital (KNH), Shimla. He emphasized that the state government is committed to providing state-of-the-art medical equipment to improve healthcare access and outcomes.
Initially, robotic surgeries will focus on gynecological procedures, with KNH gynecologists conducting elective surgeries at IGMC. A team from KNH will be deployed to support these operations, ensuring that female patients receive seamless treatment at both institutions.
A three-month trial period has been planned for robotic and elective surgeries, after which adjustments will be made as necessary.
The Chief Minister also announced the establishment of a diagnostic laboratory at IGMC, for which ₹25 crore has already been sanctioned. The new lab will significantly aid gynecologists from KNH by enabling quicker and more accurate diagnoses, ultimately improving patient care for women across the region.
