Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Tuesday directed the Health Department to ensure that patients visiting government health institutions are provided with quality medicines. Chairing a meeting of senior health officials, he said the State Government would soon invite tenders worth around ₹100 crore for the procurement of medicines, with participation from reputed pharmaceutical companies.

The Chief Minister emphasized that medicines would be procured directly from manufacturers to ensure the availability of world-class drugs in government health institutions across the state. He added that, if necessary, amendments would be made to the Drugs Act to safeguard public interest and guarantee the supply of quality medicines to the people.

Highlighting ongoing reforms in the health sector, Sukhu said the present government was making continuous efforts to strengthen healthcare services. He stressed that quality medicines are a cornerstone of effective healthcare delivery and reiterated the government’s commitment to providing world-class health facilities within the state.

The Chief Minister also instructed the Food, Civil Supplies Corporation to procure medicines for Jan Aushadhi and other medicine outlets directly from pharmaceutical companies instead of authorized dealers.

He clarified that there was no shortage of funds with the state government, but underlined that public money must be utilized strictly in the interest and welfare of the people.
