Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur flagged off 15 vehicles purchased under Shimla Smart City Project from The Ridge here today for transportation of Municipal Solid Waste of Shimla town. While interacting with the media on the occasion, Chief Minister said that these vehicles would help in smooth collection and transportation of garbage from point of source to disposal site. He said that out of total 34 vehicles, 15 have been received and rest of the vehicles would be received very shortly by Municipal Corporation Shimla. These vehicles were also equipped with GPS system for tracking and efficient management of garbage collection and transportation, he added.

Jai Ram Thakur said that these vehicles have been purchased by spending an amount of Rs. 5.44 crore. He said that these vehicles would be deployed in various wards of Municipal Corporation Shimla. Chief Minister said that these garbage collection vehicles have two covered compartments for transportation of segregated wet and dry waste. The separate leachate collection tank is also affixed in each garbage collection vehicles, he added. Urban Development Minister Suresh Bhardwaj, MLA Surender Shourie, Mayor Shimla Municipal Corporation Satya Kaundal, Deputy Mayor Shailender Chauhan, Councilors, Commissioner Shimla MC Ashish Kohli were present on the occasion.
