Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu inaugurated a state-of-the-art 3 Tesla MRI machine at Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) Shimla today. Installed at a cost of approximately Rs. 23 crore, the advanced diagnostic equipment is expected to significantly enhance healthcare services for patients across Himachal Pradesh.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said the previous MRI machine, which had been in use for nearly two decades, has now been replaced with modern high-end technology. He noted that similar 3 Tesla MRI systems are operational at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, underscoring the State Government’s commitment to equipping medical institutions with cutting-edge facilities.
He stated that on the lines of AIIMS New Delhi, advanced medical technologies are being introduced in Government Medical Colleges at Tanda, Shimla, Hamirpur, Nerchowk and the upcoming medical facility at Chamiyana. With the installation of the new MRI machine, patients will no longer need to travel outside the state for advanced diagnostic procedures, resulting in substantial savings of time and money.
The Chief Minister highlighted that the present government is investing over Rs. 3000 crore to strengthen healthcare infrastructure in the state. Interacting with medical specialists, he announced that the Orthopaedics Department at IGMC would be upgraded to world-class standards and that the process to begin robotic orthopedic and spine surgeries has already been initiated. Advanced ICUs dedicated to Medicine, Pediatrics and Respiratory diseases will also be established soon.
He further directed that exposure visits be arranged for specialists from all Government Medical Colleges in Himachal Pradesh to reputed medical institutions in India and abroad to enhance their expertise and keep them updated with the latest medical advancements. The Chief Minister also reviewed ongoing developmental works at IGMC and instructed officials to ensure their timely completion.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Dhani Ram Shandil, MLA Harish Janartha, Mayor Surinder Chauhan, and other senior health officials and medical experts were present on the occasion.
