CM Launches ‘Zero Waste’ Tribal Fest in Keylong

CM Sukhu virtually inaugurated the first-ever tribal festival in Keylong, Lahaul-Spiti district, from Shimla today. The festival, themed “Zero Waste, is being organized for the first time in the state and will continue until August 16. It aims to promote environmental conservation while showcasing the unique art and culture of the tribal region, offering tourists an opportunity to explore and appreciate the district’s heritage.

Addressing the event, the Chief Minister highlighted the challenges posed by climate change, particularly the heavy rainfall affecting Lahaul-Spiti. He assured that the state government, in collaboration with the central government, is taking all necessary measures to provide disaster relief and protect the environment. Scientists are also conducting studies on cloudburst incidents to better understand and mitigate such events.

In addition, Sukhu praised Lahaul-Spiti’s progress in women’s empowerment and announced that traditional products from the area will be promoted under the “Him-Ira” brand to support local livelihoods.

During the event, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for five bridges in Udaipur Sub-Division, worth a total of ₹36.42 crore, to improve connectivity and infrastructure in the region. Several local dignitaries, including MLAs and government officials, were present to witness the occasion.
