The Chief Minister stated that the functioning of medical colleges is being streamlined, with robotic surgery already introduced at Chamiyana Super-Specialty Hospital and Tanda Medical College. This technology will be extended to other colleges in a phased manner.
During the review, Sukhu assessed the availability of medical staff, equipment, and machinery in all institutions. He confirmed that the government is installing modern medical machines and there is no shortage of funds for strengthening health infrastructure. He also highlighted ongoing efforts to recruit doctors, paramedics, and technical personnel to address existing staff shortages.
The Chief Minister gave clear instructions to maintain cleanliness in all medical colleges, adding that accountability will be fixed in case of any lapses.
He announced the setting up of automated laboratories at Chamiyana, Hamirpur, and Chamba Medical Colleges, each at a cost of ₹25 crore. He directed that the Critical Care Block at Chamba Medical College be completed by October, and informed that the government will provide ₹100 crore for the construction of its Academic Block. Hostels for senior residents and medical staff will also be constructed there.
To bridge the gap in nursing staff, the CM said that nursing colleges at Nahan, Hamirpur, Kullu, and Chamba will start functioning from the next academic session.
Emphasizing international standards of healthcare, he instructed all health institutions to ensure doctor-patient and nurse-patient ratios are maintained accordingly. The Chief Minister also sought detailed OPD and IPD data from all medical colleges to monitor patient care delivery.
The meeting was attended by Secretary Health M. Sudha Devi, Secretary to CM Rakesh Kanwar, Special Secretary Ashwini Sharma, Director of Medical Education Rakesh Sharma, Director of Health Services Dr. Gopal Berry, and principals of all government medical colleges who joined virtually.
