CM Sukhu today urged the Fisheries Department to adopt modern technologies to enhance the shelf life and overall yield of fish produce. Presiding over a departmental meeting, he announced plans to set up new hatcheries and cold storage facilities along rivers and water reservoirs, benefiting farmers engaged in the sector. The CM also instructed the department to identify suitable land for additional cold stores across the state.

Highlighting the role of fisheries in strengthening the rural economy, Sukhu emphasized the need to support farmers through modern practices and technology to increase their income. The state government is providing subsidies for fisheries-related equipment, and the department has been tasked with organizing awareness programs on advanced practices, improved seed varieties, and emerging technologies.

The Chief Minister stressed boosting fish seed stocking in dams and reservoirs in the upcoming season and directed the department to assess seed requirements for the next year. He noted that fish production in the state is steadily rising, with 19,019 metric tonnes recorded in 2024-25 and 7,773 metric tonnes produced till October this year.

Renowned for its trout production, Himachal Pradesh will also see the establishment of a corpus fund for trout rearers, providing compensation for losses due to natural calamities.
