A delegation of the Sanyukt Kisan Manch, Himachal Pradesh, met CM Sukhu in Shimla today and submitted a memorandum highlighting various demands concerning the farming community in the state.
One of the key issues raised by the delegation was the need to increase import duty on apples. They urged the Chief Minister to take up the matter with the Union Government to safeguard the interests of local apple growers who face stiff competition from cheaper imported produce.
Chief Minister Sukhu gave a patient hearing to the concerns and assured the delegation that the State Government would consider their demands with sympathy and in the interest of the farming community.
MLA Sanjay Awasthi and Principal Advisor (Media) to the Chief Minister, Naresh Chauhan, were also present during the meeting.
