Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu attended a spiritual event, ‘Bhaj Govindam Bhajan Sandhya,’ organized by the Divya Jyoti Jagriti Sansthan in Shimla. During the event, the Chief Minister introduced a significant initiative, ‘Sankalp,’ aimed at eradicating drug addiction among the youth of Himachal Pradesh.
Government’s Commitment to Curb Drug Trafficking
The Chief Minister stressed the state government’s firm stance against drug trafficking and addiction. He mentioned recent arrests and ongoing measures to protect the youth from this rising issue. Sukhu emphasized the importance of rehabilitation and helping individuals reconnect with their families and communities.
“Our goal is to help those affected by addiction and reintegrate them into society,” said Sukhu.
State-Level De-addiction and Rehabilitation Center at Kotla Barog
The Chief Minister announced the establishment of a State-Level Model De-addiction and Rehabilitation Center in Kotla Barog, Pachhad subdivision, Sirmaur district. This center will support individuals battling substance abuse and aid in their recovery and social reintegration.
Education and Welfare Initiatives
Alongside the focus on addiction, Sh. Sukhu highlighted several other welfare initiatives:
- A Center of Excellence in Kandaghat, Solan district, will provide higher education to 9,000 specially-abled children.
- The government is offering free education to 23,000 children of widows and single women (Ekal Nari).
- A dedicated scheme for the welfare of the elderly is in progress.
Importance of Spiritual Awakening and Social Welfare
The Chief Minister spoke on the role of spiritual programs in inspiring inner awakening and social responsibility. He praised the Divya Jyoti Jagriti Sansthan and its efforts under the guidance of Divya Guru Ashutosh Maharaj Ji in both spiritual and social welfare fields, across India and abroad.
“I have personally visited the Ashram in Nurmahal, where I witnessed numerous social welfare programs alongside the spiritual revolution,” said the Chief Minister.
Himachal Pradesh’s Vision: Becoming a Green Energy State by 2026
During the event, CM Sukhu reiterated the government’s goal to make Himachal Pradesh a Green Energy State by March 31, 2026. Initiatives include the setup of a 1 MW green hydrogen plant in Nalagarh, expected to be operational by July next year.
He also mentioned writing to Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to propose using green hydrogen for the Kalka-Shimla rail services, aligning with the state’s vision for sustainable development.
