Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Thursday led an Anti-Chitta Rally in Rohru, joining students in spreading the message of a drug-free society and urging young people to stay away from drugs.

The Chief Minister flagged off the rally from the Government Senior Secondary School, Rohru, and personally walked alongside the participating students. The rally passed through the Rohru market, where students raised slogans including “Nasha Chhoro, Zindagi Se Naata Jodo”, drawing public attention to the harmful consequences of drug abuse.

A large number of students participated in the rally and used the platform to create awareness about the dangers associated with Chitta and other intoxicating substances. The participation of young people underscored their important role in taking the anti-drug message to their peers, families and communities.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Sukhu said the state government was taking strict action against the drug mafia and those involved in the illegal drug trade. He made it clear that there was no place in Himachal Pradesh for individuals engaged in the illicit trafficking of drugs.

The Chief Minister said the fight against drug abuse could not be left to the government alone and required the active participation of every section of society. He stressed that families, educational institutions, communities and young people all have an important role in preventing substance abuse and creating greater awareness about its consequences.

He said Anti-Chitta rallies and awareness programmes were being organised across Himachal Pradesh to educate students and the general public about the harmful effects of Chitta and other drugs. Such initiatives, he added, were aimed at encouraging young people to make healthy choices and remain away from substance abuse.

Earlier, the Chief Minister administered the Anti-Chitta Pledge to the students and urged them to stay away from drugs while becoming active ambassadors of the campaign against substance abuse.

The interaction also had a lighter moment when the Chief Minister took selfies with the children and encouraged them for their participation in the awareness rally.

MLA Mohan Lal Brakta, Co-Chairman of the Drug Prevention Board Sanjay Bhardwaj, Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap, Superintendent of Police Gaurav Singh and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.

The rally concluded with a strong message from the students and organisers that combating drug abuse requires sustained awareness, community participation and active involvement of the younger generation.
