Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla and Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu offered floral tribute to Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi on his death anniversary today at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the Ridge Shimla. Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla said that Gandhi Ji led India to freedom through the path of non-violence.
He said that Gandhi Ji’s message of truth and non-violence was more relevant today, and the entire nation was grateful to him for leading one of the world’s biggest non-violent movement and showing the power of non-violence to the world. The Chief Minister stated that Gandhi Ji’s leadership and dedication towards non-violence played a pivotal role in India’s struggle for independence. He called upon the citizens to draw inspiration from Gandhi Ji’s ideals and incorporate them into their lives as a genuine tribute.
Gandhi Ji was assassinated on January 30, 1948 and this day is observed as Martyr’s Day in India. Two minutes of silence was also observed to mark the occasion. Patriotic songs and bhajans were also recited on the occasion. Revenue and Horticulture Minister Jagat Singh Negi, Education Minister Rohit Thakur, Youth Services and Sports Minister Yadvinder Goma, Member of Parliament and State Congress President Pratibha Singh.
