In a major boost to eco-tourism and conservation, the CM also initiated key components of the upcoming Durgesh Aranya Zoological Park at Bankhandi. These include:
-
A Food Commissary and Quarantine facility, to be constructed at a cost of ₹47.62 crore,
-

Three road infrastructure projects were also launched, enhancing connectivity and local development:
-
Upgradation of Haripur to Sakri Ghera road (₹12.87 crore),

New road from Thathar Tripal to Mehwa Panchayat (₹6.64 crore), and
-
Guler to Nandpur Barial Ludret road upgradation (₹10.29 crore).
Speaking on the occasion, CM highlighted the progress of the Durgesh Aranya Zoological Park, a flagship project being developed at a total cost of ₹619 crore. In its first phase, ₹150 crore is being utilized for the construction of 43 animal enclosures. The CM informed that 90% of the boundary wall has already been completed, and eight check dams have been constructed to support rainwater harvesting.
He directed the construction of additional check dams to enhance the park’s water sustainability and emphasized that the project should be completed within the stipulated timeframe to ensure timely public benefit.
The park, once complete, will house 78 species, including the Asiatic lion, hog deer, monitor lizard, crocodile, ghadiyal, and several native bird species. It will also feature a wetland aviary dedicated to indigenous birds, promoting biodiversity and environmental education.
Sukhu stated, “Durgesh Aranya Zoological Park is more than just a zoo—it’s a symbol of sustainable development, conservation, and eco-tourism. It will not only attract tourists but will also generate employment and self-employment opportunities, especially for local youth.” He added that the park will significantly contribute to making Kangra the tourism capital of Himachal Pradesh.
During his visit, the Chief Minister inspected various under-construction sites within the park and provided directions to ensure quality and timely completion.
With the launch of these development initiatives, Dehra is poised for a transformative journey, reinforcing the state government’s commitment to balanced, eco-conscious, and inclusive growth.
