CM Sukhu announced that Anti-Chitta Gram Sabhas will be organised in all Gram Panchayats across the state on 21 and 22 January 2026. Chairing a meeting of senior officers, he said the sabhas will review chitta-related information, identify local issues, and focus on the rehabilitation of youth affected by drug addiction. Officers from various departments will attend as observers, while each Panchayat will conduct detailed mapping of chitta-related activities.
The Chief Minister noted that statewide awareness campaigns are already underway to educate people about the harmful effects of chitta and other psychotropic drugs. Strengthening this effort, Anti-Chitta Awareness Sports Tournaments will be organised across the state on the lines of a Premier League. Kabaddi, cricket and volleyball matches will be held at block, district and state levels, with cash prizes for winning teams from the Chief Minister.
He reiterated that the government is adopting a multi-pronged strategy to break the supply chain of chitta trafficking. Properties owned by chitta smugglers have been identified and will be demolished.
To build long-term awareness, the Education Department has been directed to include a chapter on the harmful effects of chitta in school textbooks. Gram Panchayat Pradhans and Panchayat Samiti members will be special invitees in Panchayat-level drug de-addiction committees, while Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) and women’s self-help groups (Mahila Mandals) will be actively involved in the anti-chitta campaign.
