In a major push for self-reliance in advanced defence technologies, CSIR-National Aerospace Laboratories (CSIR-NAL) unveiled three indigenous Micro and Small Gas Turbine Engines at CSIR Headquarters in New Delhi. The newly launched propulsion systems—NJ-05 (5 kg thrust), NJ-50 (50 kg thrust), and NJ-100 (100 kg thrust)—are engineered to power tactical unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), drone interceptors, and compact missile systems.
Unveiled by Chief Guest Air Marshal Tejinder Singh (CISC), the event brought together key military and scientific leaders. Air Marshal Singh highlighted that building domestic capabilities in miniature propulsion is vital for bolstering national security and achieving technological independence for the Armed Forces. Director General of CSIR Dr. N. Kalaiselvi praised the engineering team for advancing the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision, while CSIR-NAL Director Dr. Abhay A. Pashilkar emphasized that India’s growing aerospace startup ecosystem possesses the potential to manufacture these high-RPM, high-temperature engines at scale.
