Himachal Pradesh Governor Kavinder Gupta presented Geographic Indication (GI) certificates to local artisans at Lok Bhavan today, following the recognition of three iconic state crafts: Ransingha instruments, wood carving, and handmade carpets.
Facilitated by NABARD’s Himachal Pradesh Regional Office alongside local producer groups, the certificates were awarded to artisans Shakuntala Devi, Pradeep Kumar, Krishan Lal, Hira Mani, Manish Bharti, and Mahesh Bharti.
Highlighting the milestone, Governor Gupta noted that GI tags safeguard authenticity, elevate global and domestic market recognition, and ensure fair economic returns for traditional skills. He emphasized expanding market reach through modern e-commerce, quality control, and robust branding, while stressing the importance of passing these heritage crafts down to younger generations as sustainable livelihoods.
