Under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the education sector in Himachal Pradesh is undergoing a major transformation. The State Government is placing equal emphasis on quality education and the development of robust basic infrastructure to ensure the holistic growth of children across the state.
As a key initiative in this direction, Rajiv Gandhi Day-Boarding Schools are being established as centres of excellence in every Assembly constituency. Equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, these schools aim to provide children, especially from rural areas, access to quality education along with modern sports and co-curricular infrastructure. A total of 42 locations have been identified for setting up these schools, for which ₹94.46 crore has already been released.
The Chief Minister’s vision is to prepare students for future competitive challenges while nurturing their academic, physical and creative abilities. These Day-Boarding Schools will play a crucial role in shaping well-rounded individuals by combining education with sports, values and environmental awareness.
Rajiv Gandhi Day-Boarding Schools are being established in several areas across the state, including multiple locations in Kangra, Bilaspur, Chamba, Hamirpur, Kullu, Kinnaur, Lahaul-Spiti, Mandi, Shimla, Sirmour, Una and Solan districts. Construction work is progressing at a rapid pace in many constituencies.
In Hamirpur district, construction is underway in all five Assembly constituencies, with significant progress reported at Karha village in Bhoranj and Amlehar village in Nadaun. At Amlehar, the primary wing of the Day-Boarding School is scheduled to become operational from the upcoming academic session.
In Bilaspur district, Rajiv Senior Secondary School at Hatwar is being upgraded into a Rajiv Gandhi Day-Boarding School. For this purpose, 25 bighas of land have been transferred to the Education Department and ₹3.50 crore has been released to HIMUDA for construction activities.
Construction work is also progressing steadily in other Assembly constituencies. Parents have expressed satisfaction that their children will benefit from improved educational facilities along with opportunities to develop diverse talents in a nurturing environment.
The State Government, under the leadership of CM Sukhu, remains committed to delivering modern, value-based and quality education with a strong focus on physical education and environmental consciousness. Through these innovative initiatives, Himachal Pradesh is achieving notable success in the education sector at the national level and is emerging as a role model for other states in the country.
