Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushal Yojana is proving boon for the youth of the state. The scheme is nurturing skills along with providing employment to the youth. The scheme is a placement-linked skill training program which aims to transform poor rural youth into an economically independent and globally relevant workforce.With successful implementation of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushal Yojana (DDU-GKY) in the state, training has been provided to 5320 youths and employment has been provided to 3021 youths in various sectors. A target has been fixed to provide training to 22 thousand youths of the state till year 2023. The beneficiaries of the scheme have received employment in the state and neighbouring states as well. DDU-GKY is now a demand driven placement-linked skilling initiative which seeks to enable poor rural youth to benefit from national and international employment opportunities.

DDU-GKY has proven to be an effective rural development initiative for poor rural youth by providing both market linked skilling and sustainable wage employment opportunities.Poor Rural youth in the age group of 15-35 years and specially abled, women and other weaker sections upto the age of 45 years are covered under the scheme. The programme has an outcome led design with guaranteed placements for at least 70 percent trained candidates. Under the scheme, free training is being provided alongwith hostel facility. A training of three to twelve months is being provided in various courses under the scheme. Posts placement training of one year is also provided to the beneficiaries of the scheme. Presently, one year training is provided in apparel, hospitality, green jobs, beautician, sewing machine operator, baking, storage operator, spa, unarmed security guard, electrician domestic, sales associate, accounting, banking sales representative and computer hardware assistant trades under the scheme.

Emphasis is being laid on enhancing the skills by imparting training to the youth of the state. The scheme aims at making the youth self-reliant. Several youth have been imparted training through the scheme . Akshay Kumar of village Kachiyari in district Kangra, availed the benefit of the scheme and improved the socio-economic conditions of his family. Another such beneficiary of the scheme is Kamlesh of village Kashapat of Tehsil Rampur in district Shimla. Due to financial constrain these beneficiaries were not able to complete their education but the DDU-GKY scheme helped them to provide a placement-linked skill training programme. The training helped them to become self-reliant.There are several others like Kamlesh and Akshay who availed benefit of DDU-GKY scheme and skilled themselves in getting employment and becoming self-reliant.
