In response to growing concerns from parents over rising transportation costs, Deputy CM Mukesh Agnihotri announced a revised and more affordable bus pass fare structure for students of private schools in Shimla.
During a meeting with parents, Agnihotri acknowledged the recent hike in fares and revealed that the previous two-slab system has now been expanded to three, offering significant financial relief. The new fare structure is as follows:
- 0 to 6 kilometers: Reduced to ₹1200 (earlier ₹1800), with the distance limit increased from 5 to 6 km.
- 6 to 12 kilometers: Set at ₹1800, a ₹700 reduction from the earlier ₹2500.
- Above 12 kilometers: Now capped at ₹2000.
He further announced that an online system for student bus pass applications will soon be launched, streamlining the process and eliminating the need for parents to visit HRTC offices.
Agnihotri stated that the step aligned with their commitment to public welfare and was aimed at easing the financial burden on families, while emphasizing the role of the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) in delivering citizen-friendly services.
The announcement was well received by parents, who thanked the Deputy CM for addressing their concerns. Present at the event were HRTC Managing Director Dr. Nipun Jindal, senior officials, and numerous parents from private schools across Shimla.
