Himachal Pradesh’s Education Minister, Rohit Thakur, called upon the Himachali community residing in the National Capital Region (NCR) to remain connected with their roots and actively contribute to the development of their home state. He was speaking as the Chief Guest at the Sair Mahotsav and the 64th Annual Function of the District Mandi Jan Kalyan Sabha, held in New Delhi today.
In his address, the Minister emphasized that the Himachal Pradesh government is committed to the holistic development and welfare of its people. “Our efforts have brought measurable progress in every sphere,” he noted, while underlining the government’s focus on inclusive growth and education reforms.
Thakur highlighted the rich cultural legacy of Himachal Pradesh, stressing that preserving traditions is essential to maintaining the state’s identity. “We must never forget our native land, its traditions, and its culture. They are the essence of who we are,” he said, adding that it is the responsibility of the younger generation to carry forward these traditions. He called for greater awareness and pride in cultural heritage among youth, so that the state’s identity thrives for generations to come.
Referring to the Sair Mahotsav, Thakur described it as a festival of gratitude and celebration marking the end of the harvest season. “It is a significant cultural event in Himachal, deeply rooted in our agricultural traditions, and celebrated with joy and enthusiasm,” he remarked.
Call to Action for Himachalis in NCR
Sh. Thakur urged the Himachali diaspora in NCR to extend their support in serving the people of Himachal Pradesh, describing it as a true service to the motherland. He encouraged the community to stay connected with their roots, preserve their language and customs, and be active contributors to the state’s progress from wherever they reside.
Transformational Reforms in Education
Highlighting major education reforms initiated under the current state government, Thakur proudly shared that Himachal Pradesh has jumped from the 21st to the 5th position in the national education rankings. He revealed plans to convert 100 government schools into CBSE-affiliated institutions, aimed at enhancing the quality of education, especially in rural areas. “These efforts will significantly upgrade the state’s education system within the next two to three years,” he assured.
Support and Recognition
On this festive occasion, the Education Minister announced a grant of ₹1 lakh to support the cultural programme and the Sabha’s ongoing efforts. He also honoured individuals for their distinguished contributions in various fields, applauding their dedication and service.
Cultural Connection and Community Leadership
K.R. Verma, President of the District Mandi Jan Kalyan Sabha, extended a warm welcome to the Minister and other dignitaries. He shared insights into the social and humanitarian activities being carried out by the Sabha both in Mandi district and the NCR region, reinforcing the community’s deep commitment to welfare. The event featured a colourful cultural programme, showcasing traditional Himachali music and dance, which brought the spirit of the hills alive in the heart of the capital.
The event was a powerful reminder of the strong cultural ties and shared identity that connect Himachalis across geographies—and the vital role of community organisations in keeping traditions alive while supporting the state’s ongoing development.
