Euro grand dads and grand moms were the special invitees at the Regency Hall of the Holiday Home Hotel, where students of Euro Kids New Shimla celebrated Euro Grandparents Day with immense passion and enthusiasm. An introduction befitting the occasion, expressing the greatness about grandparents was quite touching. They surely are the backbone of any family, wise, patient, and source of immense spiritual strength to our grandchildren in the present times. Valuing this bond and its importance the principal, teachers and the students made an effort in celebrating this day to make the grandparents feel even more special.

euro-4Principal Ravine Singh welcomed all the Euro grandparents on this day and said, “Gentle, good natured and grand, forever ready with a sweet smile and a helpful hand, admired and regarded as noble and wise, nurturing our grand children to reach for the sky. Truly grandparents are wonderful in so many ways, as they are special people who always seem to brighten our days”. Further talking about the concept behind the celebrations she narrated how it began in 1970 and how the elderly should be honoured and respected for their invaluable support and guidance. Even though the grandparent’s day falls on 7th September, 2014, but here at Euro Kids on this day we are giving all the grandparents a tribute for being such a strong support and inculcating good habits in their grand kids, she concluded.

euro-3The evening began with a sweet poem by Bhavya, followed by an entertaining and exciting game of ‘Tambola’ for the grandparents. There was enthusiasm and zest among all as they eagerly crossed numbers on the sheets. The winners of lines were Mrs Sachdeva, Mrs Radhika Verma and Mrs Shakuntala Verma, while the two houses were won by Mrs Brij and Mrs Kanta Jaiswal.

It was then followed by another lovable poem by Rashika, which left the audience mesmerized. Next was a sweet and melodious dance performance by Euro girls on the song “Naani Teri Morni Ko More Le Gaye”, which won the hearts of the grandparents. Girls participating in this dance were Anandita, Amaira, Ananya, Saiyogita, Aerish, Suhana, Ashmani among others. The next game of the evening was the ‘Brain Kick’, in which a tray with about 24 random items was shown to the grandparents and within one minute they were asked to recall and write maximum item names. Mr Ajay Kumar Sood won the prize by memorizing 14 items.

Their sweet little moves and foot tapping was enough to bring cheers and won huge applause from all present. Nathan, Abhiraj, Aviral, Sarthak, Shaurya, Parth, Samarth, Vivan, Hanish, Surya and Suryansh were among others who performed the dance.

The next game for the grandparents was ‘Passing the Handi’. As music was played all grandparents passed a handi around with a chit inside to perform any action. Mr and Mrs S S Jaswal, grandparents of Vaibhav Thakur showed great zeal as they stepped on the stage and performed a dance number. A former teacher and grand mom of Akshita, Mr Radhika Verma sung a beautiful pahadi song and danced on it. She felt a bit nostalgic as she remembered her days at school and was honoured on being present here today with her grandchild. T R Bhardwaj, grand dad of Rashika Bhardwaj was also elated and quite happy with the celebrations as he appreciated the efforts of the principal and the teachers in putting up such a great show for them.

The highlight of the event was the presence of all the grandparents who made the effort to come here today. Babu Ram, grand dad of Shaurya, especially came from Kangra to see his grandchild perform, while Mrs Johannes, grandmother of Nathan was very elated as she travelled all the way from New Delhi, just to be with her grandson and dance with him.

Following the 11 year old ritual, Euro Grand Queen and Grand King were announced which was awarded to Mrs Radhika Verma and Mr T R Bhardwaj respectively. Other awards of the evening were charismatic grand mom, which went to Mrs Preet Thakur, while the charismatic grand dad award was given to Mr Ajay Kumar Sood. A special prize was also awarded to Mrs Johannes and Mrs Ahilya Sachdeva.

A word of appreciation for all the tiny tots and teachers who put up a great show for the grandparents, leaving a very nostalgic and emotional impression among all present. Teachers namely, Renu Chadha, Amrita, Rachna, Kartika, Shalini, Natasha and Dance Master Rinku deserve a mention for their patience and valuable inputs.
