Keekli Reporter, 27th September, 2013, Shimla
The stage was set for the students of Form I and II to perform the welcome song Aaj Ka Din as the Chief Guest, Sister Mercia D’Souza, Sr. Superior and Incharge Junior School, as well as the Secretary of the School Management Committee, Loreto Convent Tara Hall, Shimla inaugurated the Junior Speech Day – 2013 by lighting the lamp. Following which the students of Form I and II displayed their acting skills perfectly by enacting an English play titled “Rag, Tag and Bobtail”. A clear message was sent through this play that cheating was wrong and how the Chamberlin was ‘justly punished’ by the three tinkers, when he refused to pay them their hard earned money after mending all the broken things in the palace.
An English action song was performed by the students of Form I and II, Rise and Shine, followed by a Pahari dance depicting the natural beauty and culture of Himachal as the little ones from Nursery Form performed O Nach Meri Ghungareya. The coordination and dance moves were so perfectly done that the hard work and training put in by the teachers was clearly visible. The LKG students danced to the rhythmic tune of Brown Girl in the Ring and soon after that the Nursery students took the stage dressed in various animal costumes — rabbit, monkey, elephant, flapping birds, leaping leopards, slithering snakes — dancing on an English action song Down in the Jungle doing boogi boogi yoogie.
The colours of Rajasthan were brought alive by the Form LKG students as they danced on Baani Avl Tharo, swirling around in their lehnga cholis, resounding the stage with the sweet sound of amulets and clinking of bangles as they set the mood for the upcoming events. The importance, significance and value of our grandparents were taught to us as the students of Form UKG performed an English action song ‘Grandma and Grandpa’. A touching issue, as it made us — parents — realize the role grandparents play in todays’ world due to the hectic life routine followed by us.
Students of UKG then performed a Gujarati dance Man Mein Umang Jage, followed by a sweet and energetic parody entertainer — with a twist of popular Hindi classic numbers — by the students of Form I and II who showed how cleverness could help beat the mighty, enacting the famous hare and lion story, wherein the lion jumps into the well after seeing his own reflection. The last but definitely not least performance was by the students of Form I and II, a Marathi dance Mei Re Koli as the little ones were dressed as sweet fisherwomen and fishermen swinging around their baskets and paddles.
The day ended on a high note as the chief guests, parents and all those present were thrilled to see the little ones perform. The excitement level was so much that the teachers had to request the parents to take their seats so that those sitting on the back seats could watch the show.
The Chief Guest, Sister Mercia D’Souza said, “I am sure all of us enjoyed this day and are also feeling young after seeing the little ones perform as we are taken back to our good old days when once we took the stage. Today every little child who performed on this stage and showcased immense talent is a VIP. This day would become memorable for parents as well as the children and be cherished for years to come”. She further praised the Principal and the teaching staff who had put in all the hard work and trained these tiny tots in giving a wonderful performance.
Director Principal Sunita John read the Principal’s Report in which she outlined the activities and events in which the students had participated since the beginning of the 2013 academic session. She said, “We believe in developing the all round human personality, apart from striving to attain exemplary academic standards. In this context large numbers of competitions are conducted throughout the year as children are encouraged to participate at all India level too through events organized by Camelin, Avantika, Charu Castle Foundation, etc. Children prove their mettle as they vide with each other to win these competitions”. She further added that the four House days celebrated give children ample opportunity to display hidden talent.
In her thank you note, Principal John appreciated and expressed gratitude towards her teaching staff and Vanita Wilson, coordinator of the lower primary department, for ensuring that all the students of the department participated in one or the other event. She also stressed that it is the mutual cooperation of teachers as well as the parents, which makes the whole process meaningful and hence success is achieved. “Youngsters are growing up to be more selfish and disobedient, with no regards to rules and regulations but by cultivating a habit of discipline and imbibing them with right values at this age is our main focus as values are caught rather than taught”.
