President of India, Droupadi Murmu, delivered the keynote address at the valedictory session of the National Green Tribunal’s (NGT) two-day international conference, ‘The Future of Environment and Climate Dynamics’. The event gathered legal experts, policymakers, and environmental scientists from 17 nations, alongside delegates from UNEP and the Asian Development Bank.
Emphasizing the importance of grassroots solutions, President Murmu urged a shift toward community-driven adaptation strategies rooted in traditional knowledge to build long-term climate resilience. She praised the NGT’s pivotal role in advancing environmental governance across the country.
During the session, Union Minister Manohar Lal highlighted India’s clean energy milestones, noting that non-fossil sources now account for nearly 55% of the country’s installed power capacity—achieving its 50% target five years ahead of schedule. Supreme Court Justice B.V. Nagarathna, NGT Chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava, and Solicitor General Tushar Mehta also addressed the gathering, stressing the need for ecocentric jurisprudence, equitable climate justice, and stronger institutional cooperation.
The conference concluded with the release of ‘Harit Nyayam’, an official souvenir documenting the NGT’s journey and legal achievements.
