Students of Guru Nanak Foundation Public School observed “World No Tobacco Day” with great zeal and fervour in the school premises. A special assembly was conducted by the students of Class IX wherein the students presented various activities. The programme began with a Shabad.
Jaspreet Kaur of IX delivered a speech in English followed by Jagdeep who stressed on the need of tobacco and smoke free world. It was followed by a song “Rangla Punjab Mere Kala Ho Gaya” and “Putt Pardesi” sung by Rouble Rana, Komalpreet Kaur, Jaskaran and Barinder. Kavaljeet of Class IX also expressed her views on ‘World No Tobacco Day’.
After the speech, a play was dramatized brilliantly by the students IX. Through this play the children highlighted gruesome facts such as tobacco causes five lakh cases of lung cancers every year and how students these days are being caught in the vicious addiction.
On this occasion, the school also organised a poster making competition wherein the students prepared posters and displayed them around with messages on the negative effects of the use of tobacco.
At the end of the programme, School Principal said that “This went a long way in making the students aware of the ill effects of smoking and why it was urgent need for smokers to shun this habit for a healthier future.”
