Governor Shukla today flagged off three trucks loaded with essential relief materials from Raj Bhavan, aimed at providing immediate support to the families affected by the recent natural disaster in Mandi district.

The relief consignment, sent through the State Red Cross Society to the Mandi district administration, includes 540 blankets, 500 tarpaulin sheets, 20 boxes of clothing, kitchen sets, buckets, and other daily-use essentials.

While addressing the media, the Governor expressed deep concern over the devastation in Thunag and surrounding areas, which were severely hit by landslides, flash floods, and road damage, disrupting connectivity and daily life. He praised the district administration, armed forces, NDRF, and SDRF teams for their swift and dedicated rescue efforts.

He urged locals to cooperate with authorities and avoid obstructing rescue operations, stating, Local knowledge of the terrain is crucial for the timely and efficient delivery of aid.” He also mentioned plans to personally visit the affected regions soon to assess the situation firsthand.

Governor Shukla assured that more aid will be arranged if needed, and called upon the people of Himachal Pradesh to come forward and extend support to the affected families. He further advised vigilance during the monsoon season and cautioned tourists to stay away from riverbanks and vulnerable areas.

Highlighting the increasing frequency of natural disasters in hilly regions, the Governor emphasized the urgent need for greater environmental awareness and called for a sustainable, long-term strategy from all infrastructure and policy-making departments to protect the state’s fragile ecology.

C.P. Verma, Secretary to the Governor, was also present during the flag-off ceremony.
