Governor Kavinder Gupta has stressed the importance of preserving and promoting the rich linguistic and cultural heritage of Himachal Pradesh by documenting the state’s diverse regional dialects in literary and written form.

The Governor made these remarks during a meeting with noted author Dr. O.P. Sharma at Lok Bhavan on Friday. During the interaction, Dr. Sharma presented his poetry collection ‘Mhari Soch’ to the Governor.

Highlighting the cultural richness of the hill state, Kavinder Gupta said Himachal Pradesh is widely recognised not only for its scenic beauty but also for its vibrant folk traditions, languages and cultural diversity. He said regional dialects such as Kangri, Mandyali, Kullvi, Sirmauri and Kinnauri form an integral part of the state’s identity and should be actively preserved through literature, academic research and documentation.

Describing language as the soul of society, the Governor said preserving local dialects is essential to protect cultural roots and pass on traditional knowledge and heritage to future generations.

He also underlined the role of literature in strengthening cultural awareness and social values. Appreciating the contributions of writers and poets, he said literary figures play a significant role in safeguarding regional traditions and promoting native languages through their creative works.
