Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla attended the state-level function organized by Guru Singh Sabha, Shimla, at the historic Ridge today to commemorate the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji.
Addressing the gathering, the Governor said that sacrifice, penance, devotion, and service to humanity were the guiding principles of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s life. He emphasized that Guru Ji’s teachings remind everyone that religion is not limited to worship but is about protecting humanity and upholding righteousness.
“Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji sacrificed his life for the protection of human rights and freedom of faith. His supreme martyrdom stands as a timeless testament that sacrifices made for truth and justice never go in vain,” the Governor said.
Highlighting the universality of Guru Ji’s message, Shukla noted that it transcends the boundaries of any one faith and serves as an inspiration for the entire humanity. The presence of people from diverse communities and regions at the function, he said, reflects India’s unity in diversity and enduring spirit of brotherhood.
He further stated that whenever society faces challenges of fear, intolerance or division, the teachings of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji guide humanity towards courage, compassion, and service. True devotion, the Governor added, lies in serving others and walking the path of truth. He urged everyone to imbibe Guru Ji’s ideals in daily life by promoting tolerance, mutual respect, and harmony.
Earlier, the Governor was felicitated by Jasvinder Singh, President of Guru Singh Sabha, Shimla.
The event was attended by Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur, PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh, MP Suresh Kashyap, State Congress President and former MP Pratibha Singh, MLAs Harish Janartha and Hardeep Singh Bawa, Mayor Surender Chauhan, SGPC member Daljit Singh Bhindar, members of the Sikh community, and other dignitaries.
