Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar said law against drug addiction would follow its own course but we need to deal with emotional challenges. He said that consciousness could be brought into the society through ‘Emotional Motivational Programme’, which would bring positive results. The Governor was addressing the inaugural session of a five-day training program for Capacity Enhancement of Investigation and Supervisory Officers of Drug Law Enforcement Agencies of Himachal Pradesh organized by Himachal Pradesh Nasha Nivaran Board in collaboration with United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) at HP Institute of Public Administration (HIPA), Fairlawn today.
“We should discuss the ill effects of drugs so that effective steps can be taken in future and this topic must be discussed with children to make them aware for the future”, said Shri Arlekar. He said that for the last many years there have been marathon discussions about drugs but it was more important to think about what was the solution to this problem and how do we approach this problem. Arlekar said that drug addiction was a very sensitive issue and it should also be resolved emotionally besides implementing law and policies made by the Government in this direction. He said that every individual has the responsibility to take initiative from their home itself. Inculcate the habit of reading in their children and it was the duty of their parents to choose good books, he advised.
He said that we should spend time with the wards and try to connect them with the family. Moral values should be inculcated in children by parents which would provide permanent solution to this problem, he added. On this occasion, Adviser of the South Asia Office of UNODC, Jayant Mishra detailed the outline of the five-day program and about participation of UNODC. Member Secretary, Drug Prevention Board, Yunus gave detailed information about the need of the programme. Principal Secretary to Chief Minister and Principal Secretary State Taxes and Excise Subhasish Panda welcomed the Governor. Convener and Advisor, Himachal Pradesh Drug Prevention Board Om Prakash Sharma presented a vote of thanks. Additional Director, HIPA, Jyoti Rana, experts from UNODC and other prominent people were also present on the occasion.
