Governor Kavinder Gupta flagged off a mini marathon from the Ridge Ground in Shimla on World Environment Day, urging people to work collectively for environmental conservation and a drug-free Himachal Pradesh.

Organised jointly by the Himachal Pradesh Police, the Department of Environment, Science, Technology and Climate Change, and the Census Directorate, the event was held under the theme “Clean Environment and Drug-Free Life.” Students, security personnel, senior citizens and specially-abled participants joined the marathon in large numbers.

Addressing the gathering, the Governor said Himachal Pradesh’s clean environment is a valuable asset that must be preserved for future generations. He stressed that development should go hand in hand with environmental sustainability and highlighted the need to tackle the growing menace of drug abuse through collective efforts.

He lauded the Himachal Pradesh Police for its awareness initiatives and expressed confidence that public participation could help make the state drug-free.

Earlier, the Governor administered a pledge on cleanliness, environmental protection and a drug-free lifestyle. He also visited an environmental awareness exhibition and signed the ‘Harit Himachal, Chitta-Mukt Himachal’ campaign wall, reaffirming his commitment to both causes.
