Governor Leads Republic Day Celebrations at Ridge

The 77th Republic Day was celebrated with pride and grandeur at the historic Ridge in Shimla, where Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla unfurled the National Flag during the state-level celebration. Following the flag hoisting, the Governor inspected the parade and took the salute at an impressive march past led by Additional Superintendent of Police, Shimla, Mehar Panwar, and commanded by Lt. Shashwat Tiwari of 1 J&K Rifles. Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Lady Governor Janaki Shukla were present on the occasion.

The ceremonial march past featured disciplined contingents from the Indian Army, Indo-Tibetan Border Police, Sashastra Seema Bal, Punjab Police, Himachal Pradesh Police, Home Guards, Fire Services, Postal Services, Disaster Management teams, ex-servicemen, NCC, NSS, Bharat Scouts and Guides, among others—symbolising unity, service and national pride.

On the occasion, the Governor honoured Ritik Chauhan of Gagana village in Shimla district with the Uttam Jeevan Raksha Padak for displaying exceptional bravery in saving lives.

Colourful tableaux showcasing developmental initiatives and achievements of various government departments captivated the audience, while vibrant cultural performances added charm to the celebrations. Folk artists from the North Zone Cultural Centre, Patiala, presented traditional dances from Jammu & Kashmir, Haryana and Uttarakhand. The Eklavya Kala Manch of Himachal Pradesh Police staged a compelling street play on the theme of a “Drug-Free Himachal,” highlighting the dangers of drug abuse and illegal narcotics trade. Cultural troupes from Hamirpur and Shimla further enthralled spectators with their spirited performances.

The event reflected the rich cultural heritage, developmental progress and collective spirit of Himachal Pradesh on this momentous national occasion.
