Governor Presides over Closing Ceremony of Under-19 Girls Zonal Tournament

Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar said that traditional sports activities should also be promoted in the State. He said that there was no dearth of sports talent at the village level but their talents could be promoted by giving proper platform to them. The Governor was speaking at the closing ceremony of the Under-19 Girls Zonal Tournament of Theog Zone organized at Government Senior Secondary School Sandhu under Theog sub-division of Shimla district, today. Congratulating all the players who participated in the competition, he said that our culture, tradition and thoughts were environment-friendly, so the worship of plants in our tradition was related to environmental protection.

He said that the environment holds a high place in our life. Emphasizing on environmental protection to the students, he said that unfortunately we were overlooking our duty towards the environment. He expressed happiness that Vrindavan Vatika was being developed in the school premises. He also emphasized on the planting of medicinal plants in the Vatika. Emphasizing on the need to inculcate the hobby of reading books, the Governor said that apart from the textbooks, other books should also be read by them. This would further improve their life and ensure their personal growth, he added. The Governor laid the foundation stone of “Vrindavan Vatika” at school premises. He also took a salute from an impressive march past presented by the participants of the championship. The Governor also distributed prizes to the winning teams.

Medical Superintendent, DDU Hospital, Shimla Dr. Lokinder Sharma welcomed the Governor on the occasion. Earlier Principal, Government Senior Secondary School, Sandhu Rajinder Singh honoured and welcomed the Governor and briefed about the activities of the school and detailed about the Championship. Gram Panchayat Sandhu Pradhan Deepna also welcomed the Governor and apprised the Governor about the local demands. A colourful cultural programme was also performed on the occasion. Prominent people of the area and officers were also present on the occasion.
