Governor Shukla chaired a comprehensive review meeting on the Aspirational District Programme at Bachat Bhawan, Chamba, focusing on the developmental status of Chamba district and its Aspirational Development Blocks—Tissa and Pangi. Officials from various departments presented updates on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to health, education, agriculture, infrastructure, and other sectors.

Emphasizing the state’s commitment to uplift Chamba, the Governor said the goal is to help Chamba exit the Aspirational District category by ensuring development at par with the more advanced districts. He stressed the need for close coordination among elected representatives, departmental officials, and the administration to drive meaningful progress in priority sectors like road connectivity, healthcare, and agriculture.

Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania suggested that special provisions for land acquisition under PMGSY be made for the district, given its hilly terrain and Aspirational District status. He also advocated empowering the state government to approve up to 5 hectares of forest land use for road construction and proposed enhancing financial aid under PM Awas Yojana in hilly regions.

MLA Neeraj Nayyar recommended that Chamba receive special priority and policy relaxations from the Centre and emphasized expediting Phase 2 of Chamba Medical College construction. MLA Dr. Hans Raj provided insights on improving the healthcare system in remote areas of the district.

The meeting also focused on promoting Responsible Tourism in Chamba. Experts from outside the state shared case studies and practical models to develop tourism sustainably without disturbing the region’s ecological balance.

Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Repaswal assured the Governor that all feedback and instructions from the review meeting would be implemented diligently.

Other attendees included MLA D.S. Thakur, Secretary to the Governor C.P. Verma, ADM Amit Mehra, SDM Priyanshu Khati, and senior officials from PWD, Jal Shakti, HPSEBL, and District Programmes. The meeting concluded with a collective commitment to accelerating Chamba’s development and improving the quality of life for its residents.
