The Department of School Education, Government of Himachal Pradesh, has clarified that the recent merger of selected Government Boys’ and Girls’ Schools does not involve closing any school. The reform is administrative and academic, designed to optimise resources and improve overall quality of education.

Under the new structure, the infrastructure, teaching, and non-teaching staff of merged schools will come under a single Principal. This unified framework is intended to enhance academic supervision, staff coordination, and uniform teaching standards, boosting efficiency and accountability.

Both school campuses will remain fully operational. The Directorate of School Education is preparing operational guidelines to run classes across both campuses effectively. Depending on local needs, arrangements may include hosting Balvatika to Class VIII in one campus and Classes IX to XII in the other, ensuring optimal use of classrooms, laboratories, libraries, sports facilities, and other resources while avoiding overcrowding.

CBSE affiliation for certain merged schools has been granted based on the combined infrastructure and human resources of the former Boys’ and Girls’ Schools, as recorded under the SARAS 6.0 portal. The merger was duly considered during CBSE compliance assessments.

The Department is reviewing academic and staffing requirements to align teacher deployment with the needs of the merged schools.

Speaking on the occasion, Rohit Thakur, Hon’ble Education Minister of Himachal Pradesh, highlighted that the merger is a strategic reform aimed at strengthening government education. He reiterated that no school is closing and that both campuses will remain operational.

Ashish Kohli, Director of School Education, explained that administrative integration under a single Principal will enable better academic planning, effective utilisation of both school complexes, and improved monitoring of teaching and learning processes. Operational guidelines are being finalised to ensure resources are efficiently used and students receive high-quality education.

The Department emphasised that all measures are being implemented in the best interest of students, aiming to strengthen government schools through efficient administration, optimal resource use, and improved educational outcomes.
