Shimla District Police have cracked an interstate drug smuggling ring dealing in ‘chitta’ (heroin) and arrested the alleged primary supplier from Chandigarh following a detailed investigation under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The operation was part of a special anti-narcotics campaign in the district. A case was registered at Kumarsain Police Station on March 12, 2026, under FIR No. 20/2026, after police recovered 12.36 grams of heroin during routine checks.
During the initial investigation, three accused were arrested: Rahul Larju (27) of Bounda, Shubham Khanna (31) of Dheu, both in Rampur subdivision, Shimla, and Vikas Minj (26) of Sundargarh, Odisha.
Further inquiry traced the source of the narcotics to Sanjay alias ‘Ganji’, son of late Ramkesh, resident of Mauli Jagran Complex, Chandigarh. Acting on these leads, Shimla police raided Chandigarh and apprehended him, identifying him as a key link in the interstate drug network.
Authorities said the arrest is expected to reveal crucial details about the larger narcotics chain operating across states. Officials emphasized that anti-drug operations will continue with greater rigor to curb abuse and safeguard youth. The public has been urged to report any information regarding drug trafficking to help eliminate this menace.
