Himachal Pradesh Government Contemplates Raising Marriage Age for Girls

A spokesperson of the state government said here today that as per the direction of Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the government has formed a committee to examine an increase in the marriage age of Girls in Himachal Pradesh. A notification has been issued in this regard on 6th December, 2023.

Social Justice and Empowerment Secretary M. Sudha Devi will be Chairperson of the committee. Rural Development Secretary Priyatu Mandal, Law Secretary Sharad Kumar Lagwal, Director Labour & Employment Manasi Sahay Thakur and Chief of Bureau of The Tribune newspaper Pratibha Chauhan will be Members of the committee. Managing Director of the National Health Mission Priyanka Verma will be Member Secretary of the committee.
