Himachal Pradesh is currently grappling with an intense forest fire season, with over 100 incidents being reported daily. The Forest Survey of India’s fire alert portal, utilizing satellite technology, has been instrumental in identifying these occurrences. One of the significant fires was reported in the Baldiwara Forest Range of Mandi District, particularly in the Bairkot forest, while the Gram Van Vikas Samiti Sarova meeting was underway on Saturday morning.

Members of the Van Vikas Samiti (VFD) immediately responded, trekking one kilometer to the fire site. With the collaborative efforts of the JICA Forestry Project and the Forest Department team, the fire was successfully controlled after several hours of strenuous effort. The team included retired Himachal Pradesh Forest Service officer VP Pathania, SMS Suket Vijay Kumar, and VFD Sarova President Roshan Lal.

The fire season has kept the Forest Department and JICA Project teams on high alert. CPD JICA Samir Rastogi praised their continuous efforts and dedication to controlling forest fires across the region.

The combined efforts of local committees and forest department officials highlight the importance of community involvement in forest conservation. With satellite alerts and ground teams working in tandem, Himachal Pradesh is striving to mitigate the impact of this year’s fire season.

In addition to controlling the fires, the teams are also focusing on preventive measures to reduce the frequency and severity of such incidents. Continuous monitoring and quick response are proving crucial in protecting the state’s rich forest resources from the ravages of fire.

The proactive approach and successful firefighting efforts underscore the commitment of both the JICA Project and the Forest Department to safeguarding Himachal Pradesh’s forests. As the fire season continues, their vigilance and hard work remain vital in ensuring the safety and preservation of these natural areas.
