Health, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. (Col.) Dhani Ram Shandil today attended a virtual preparatory meeting chaired by Union WCD Minister Annpurna Devi for an upcoming two-day national departmental summit. Scheduled for October 8 and 9, 2026, at Sushma Swaraj Bhawan, New Delhi, the event will convene state and union territory ministers and secretaries, concluding with a valedictory address by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 9.
Dr. Shandil highlighted that the summit will center on four core pillars: reimagining Anganwadi centers for enhanced nutrition and early childhood education, strengthening child protection mechanisms, improving women’s safety through institutional frameworks, and boosting the impact of women empowerment initiatives.
Emphasizing Himachal Pradesh’s participation, Dr. Shandil stated that the state WCD department is preparing a comprehensive presentation to present actionable suggestions and advocate for key welfare demands. He added that the summit serves as a vital platform for states and UTs to collaborate and streamline the ground-level implementation of centrally sponsored schemes for maximum public benefit.
