Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced that the Himachal Pradesh Horticulture Produce Marketing and Processing Corporation (HPMC) will establish a state-of-the-art winery at Parala, Theog, in Shimla district. With an estimated investment of Rs. 86 crore, this project is set to enhance the state’s horticulture sector while generating employment opportunities for local residents.

Key Benefits of the Winery Project

The Chief Minister emphasized that the winery would bring significant benefits to fruit growers by offering better prices for their produce, including apples, peaches, and plums. This value addition to horticultural produce is expected to economically empower farmers and elevate Himachal Pradesh’s reputation as a producer of high-quality fruit-based products.

Aligning with Government Initiatives

The project aligns with the state government’s mission to strengthen agriculture and horticulture through modern infrastructure and innovative solutions. The winery is expected to generate direct and indirect employment in production, processing, marketing, and allied industries.

The Chief Minister highlighted that the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to increasing the income of farmers and horticulturists, promoting sustainable growth in rural areas.

Other Key Government Initiatives for Horticulture

  1. Universal Carton for Apple Growers: Addressing a long-standing demand, the government introduced a universal carton to meet the needs of apple growers.
  2. Market Intervention Scheme (MIS): Rs. 163 crore has been disbursed under the scheme, clearing dues inherited from the previous government.
  3. Subsidies on Fungicides and Insecticides: Subsidies have been reinstated to make these essential supplies more affordable for apple growers.
  4. Hike in Minimum Support Price (MSP): A historic increase in MSP for fruits ensures better returns for growers and timely payment of dues.

Himachal Pradesh: The Fruit Bowl of the Country

Known as the “Fruit Bowl of the Country,” Himachal Pradesh continues to leverage its abundant raw materials by promoting the establishment of modern processing units. The Parala winery marks another milestone in the state’s journey toward becoming a hub for quality horticulture products, ensuring prosperity for farmers and long-term rural development.
