Himachal Pradesh To Mark Independence Day With A Solemn Tone Amidst Devastation

Keeping in view the unprecedented damage to life and property due to heavy rains, landslides, cloudbursts and floods in the state, the state government has decided that cultural programmes will not be organized during Independence Day celebrations in the state. This year’s Independence Day function will be only ceremonial.

This was stated by Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, here today. Sukhu said that heavy rains have wreaked havoc in the State and the Government is with the affected families in this hour of distress. The Chief Minister also visited Indira Gandhi Medical College, Shimla, and inquired about the well being of the people injured in various incidents of landslides in Shimla town. He wished a speedy recovery to all the injured.
